What is Cosmology?

Cosmology is a branch of physics and metaphysics dealing with the nature of the universe. The term cosmology was first used in English in 1656 in Thomas Blount's Glossographia, and in 1731 taken up in Latin by German philosopher Christian Wolff, in Cosmologia Generalis

Who is the father of Cosmology?

ACHARYA KAPIL (3000 BCE ) FATHER OF COSMOLOGY gifted the world with the Sankhya School of Thought, throwing light on the nature & principles of the ultimate Soul (Purusha), primal matter (Prakruti) & creation. He asserted that Prakruti, with the inspiration of Purusha, is the mother of cosmic creation & all energies.

Types of Cosmology

  1. Physical cosmology incorporating physics, astrophysics, and astronomy

  2. Religious cosmology  involving origin stories and mythologies from religious traditions

Why is Cosmology important?

Introduction. Modern scientific cosmology is valuable in itself for what it reveals about the nature of the cosmos we inhabit . It is a demonstration of the power of modern science to transform our understanding of who we are and where we came from.
