What is Time Dilation?

Time dilation is a physical phenomenon in which time moves differently for different observers in the same inertial frame (in which there is no acceleration between them). In time dilation, time moves slower for an observer who is in motion relative to another observer.

Gravitational time dilation occurs because objects with a lot of mass create a strong gravitational field. The gravitational field is really a curving of space and time. The stronger the gravity, the more spacetime curves, and the slower time itself proceeds.
